How word scoring works
Every letter tile in Scrabble and Words With Friends has a fixed point value based on how common and useful that letter is — common letters like E, A and I are worth 1 point, while rare ones like Q, Z and J are worth 10. A word's base score is just the sum of its letters. What this tool shows is that raw total; it doesn't add board bonuses like a double letter, triple letter, double word or triple word square, since those depend entirely on where the word lands on your specific board.

- Do Scrabble and Words With Friends use the same letter values?
- No — around half the alphabet is worth a different number of points in each game, including common letters like B, C, G, L, N and U, which is why this tool checks both side by side rather than assuming they match.
- Does this include board bonuses like double word score?
- No — this shows the word's raw letter-value total only, not board multipliers like double letter, triple letter, double word or triple word squares, since those depend on where you play it.
- Does it matter if I type the word in capitals?
- No — capitalisation is ignored, only the letters themselves affect the score.
