Crossword Solver
Know some of the letters in a crossword answer but not all of them? Type what you've got, using an underscore for every blank square, and we'll show every word in the dictionary that fits.
Use _ or ? for each letter you don't know.
How to use the crossword solver
Count the squares in the answer, then type that many characters into the box: real letters where you know the answer, and an underscore _ for every square that's still blank. For example, if you know a five-letter word starts with C and ends with T, type C___T. The solver only returns words that are exactly the right length and match every letter you've filled in — it never guesses at length for you.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I mark the letters I don't know?
- Use an underscore
_(or a question mark?) for each unknown letter, and type the letters you do know in their exact position — e.g.CR_SSW_RDfor CROSSWORD with two blanks. - Does the pattern need to match the exact word length?
- Yes — include one underscore for every missing letter, so the pattern is exactly as long as the answer. That's how a crossword grid works, and it's what keeps results accurate rather than a mixed bag of lengths.
- Why isn't a word I know showing up?
- The solver checks against a curated common-word dictionary, so some valid but less common words won't appear yet. Double-check your underscore count matches the answer's length too.
