How this works
The checker strips out spaces, punctuation and capitalisation before comparing a piece of text to its own reverse — that's what lets phrases like "A man, a plan, a canal, Panama!" register as a palindrome even though the raw text isn't identical backwards. The list below is generated straight from the site's dictionary, so it only shows real, common words rather than every technically-possible letter mirror.
Worked example
Input: Was it a car or a cat I saw?
Strip the spaces, punctuation and capital letters first and you get wasitacaroracatisaw — read that backwards and it's identical, letter for letter, which is exactly why the checker discards everything except letters and numbers before comparing a string to its own reverse.
